Characteristic.

It has a silver-white metallic appearance, a density of 6.25 g / cm3, a melting point of 452 ° C, a boiling point of 1390 ° C, and a hardness of 2.5 (Mohs hardness). There are two allotropic forms, crystalline and amorphous. Tellurium burns in the air with a blue flame and generates tellurium dioxide; it can react with halogens but not with sulfur and selenium. Soluble in sulfuric acid, nitric acid, potassium hydroxide and potassium cyanide solution. Poor heat transfer and electrical conductivity. Tellurium with apurity of more than 99.99% is called high-purity tellurium.

It is used to prepare II-VI compound semiconductors, solar cells, thermoelectric conversion elements, refrigeration elements, light-emitting diodes, nuclear radiation detection, infrared detectors and other basic materials.
