PDLLA is a non-crystalline polymer, the appearance is white to light yellowish-brown irregular particles or powder. According to the end group of the tail, poly-DL-lactic acid is divided into three structural forms: hydroxyl-terminated, carboxyl-terminated and ester-terminated.

PDLLA is formed by the polymerization of DL-lactide. The product made of racemic polylactic acid has good biocompatibility and is used as a drug release carrier, the drug is embedded in a polymer which forms microspheres or microparticles.
