【 2023 48th Week Spot Market Weekly Report 】 Rare earth prices may rebound after first falling and then rising

01.Summary of Rare Earth Spot Market

This week, prices fell first and then rose. On Thursday, the prices of dysprosium oxide and terbium oxide rebounded significantly, but overall remained unchanged from last Friday. As of the publication date, the quotation for praseodymium neodymium oxide is about 490000 yuan/ton, the quotation for metallic praseodymium neodymium is about 600000 yuan/ton, the quotation for dysprosium oxide is about 2.6 million yuan/ton, and the quotation for terbium oxide is about 7.7 million yuan/ton.

Recently, the Myanmar North dispute has continued, but normal customs clearance of goods can still be maintained, which has little impact on China’s rare earth imports. In the first 10 months, a total of 9614136 kilograms of rare earth commodities, including mixed rare earth carbonate, unnamed rare earth oxide, rare earth metal ore, and compounds of unnamed rare earth metals and their mixtures, were imported from Laos, becoming this year’s newcomer, while there was no data from last year. Meanwhile, imports of rare earth metal ore from the United States have been continuously decreasing this year, with a total decrease of 18724698 kilograms in the first 10 months.

At present, terminal neodymium iron boron enterprises are in a more difficult situation, with old order deliveries nearing completion and new order signings decreasing. The uncertainty of the economic environment, the increase in raw material production, and the decrease in terminal orders may have a significant impact on the rare earth industry. The good news is that the overall inventory of neodymium iron boron enterprises is relatively low. If there is good news, the rebound in demand will also be more rapid.

02.Export situation of rare earth magnetic materials in October 2023

On November 21st, the General Administration of Customs released detailed import and export data for October.

The export data of rare earth magnetic materials in China in October was close to the same period last year, with a month on month decrease of 12.82%. In the first 10 months, the total export volume of neodymium iron boron related products in China decreased by 1.94% year-on-year this year.
